Job Description

The Director of Agronomy will be responsible for all day-to-day agronomic maintenance, plans, programs and budgets for two 18-hole golf courses, the practice areas, clubhouse grounds, and maintenance equipment. The Director of Agronomy will be responsible for creating outstanding playing conditions, developing and leading a high-performing agronomy team, providing outstanding club and grounds conditions, and creating a strong culture of responsibility, accountability, and teamwork among the maintenance staff. The Director of Agronomy will be an integral member of the Executive Team and will report directly to the General Manager/COO. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Golf and his team to provide exceptional golf experiences for Vineyards members’ and guests.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all agronomy activities at Club.
  • Provide outstanding course and grounds conditions in all areas of the club.
  • Maintain an extensive fleet of maintenance equipment.
  • Develop and implement appropriate, sustainable, and efficient programs to provide high-quality turf conditions and horticulture presentations.
  • Create overall plans and budgets for golf and clubhouse grounds maintenance: manage department within staffing and fiscal guidelines.
  • Lead a high-performing crew of 45, including North Course Superintendent, South Course Superintendent, Head of Equipment Maintenance, and Spray and Irrigation technicians.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate records pertaining to staffing, OSHA, chemical application, spraying, irrigation, equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment, adhering to all state, federal and local safety regulations/guidelines.
  • Comfortably communicate regularly with the General Manager/COO and the Board of Directors, keeping them informed about activities, plans and programs towards a goal of superior conditions and high levels of member satisfaction.

Job Requirements

  • College degree in agronomy or turf management.
  • 5 years minimum experience as Head Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Active member of GCSAA.
  • Track record of providing high-quality turf conditions.
  • Skilled manager of large agronomy staff.
  • Golf course construction experience preferable.
  • Excellent communication skills: adept at developing agronomic budgets, plans and programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience managing warm season turf and plants, specifically Bimini and Ultra Dwarf Tiff Eagle grasses.
  • Hold or acquire Florida herbicide, pesticide, fungicide application license.
