Naples, Fla. (September 12, 2023)Vineyards Country Club officials and renowned golf course architect Kipp Schulties today announced that the redesign and renovation of its 18-hole, championship South golf course has attained substantial completion. “Substantial completion” is a technical term meaning the construction is complete; the new grass will be ready for play in approximately three months. The traditional-style course has served as a senior PGA tour stop for five years, hosting The Aetna Challenge, Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Challenge and The IntelliNet Challenge.

Construction crews are currently installing Bimini™ grass and sod sprigs on fairways and rough areas, and TifEagle sprigs for the greens. Bulkheads have been installed on many of the lakes, and the entire course is being lengthened. The tenth and eighteenth holes are being flipped. New infrastructure including a technologically advanced irrigation and drainage system are being installed. The new bunkers will feature weather-resistant par angle bunker sand, a premium angular sand made from silica quartz.

“The new South Course will be very playable, offering wide open fairways with firmer and faster playing conditions throughout,” said golf course designer and architect Kipp Schulties. “The greens are faster, far bigger, including more character and contour. The ball will roll much further offering a far better-quality course and keeping playability challenging, yet not difficult. The driving range tee has been expanded, and the design of the driving range has changed, lowering the floor of the range, making it appear bigger and contoured to see every shot.”

The new driving range will offer FlagD technology, with units connected via GPS to each flag on the driving range. Each unit acts as a digital sign, displaying GPS distances to the target locations on the range. This allows players greater control over their practice shots and club choices. To achieve preserving pace of play and maintenance efficiency, each golf cart will feature GPS and geofencing technology.

The renovation represents the first phase of a significant transformation of Vineyards Country Club’s two 18-hole golf courses about 35 years ago. With the renovation of the South Course, the North Course will also undergo a full-service redesign, renovation and irrigation reconstruction in 2024.

“The improvements we are making to the golf courses will take Vineyards Country Club’s golfing experience to a new level,” said Vineyards Country Club Chairman and Co-Owner Michael Procacci, Jr. “Since 1988, the tradition of the Club has been to provide an unparalleled experience to our members and to be a valued neighbor to all. We are committed to honoring our place in the community and the continued legacy of leadership that our members have always insisted upon.”

At final completion, both courses will feature expanded yardage from the professional tees to enhance the layout to a championship level. Greens will be rebuilt and enlarged to help accommodate a range of pin locations. Fairways will be recontoured to enhance playability, pace of play and enjoyability for golfers of all skill levels. The courses will have several modern touches adding character, contour and elevation and offering members a unique golf experience.
