Naples, Fl. (December 19, 2023)— Vineyards Country Club and renowned golf course architect Kipp Schulties today announced the completion of the extensive redesign and renovation of its iconic South golf course. The culmination of this visionary project marks a significant milestone for Vineyards Country Club, renowned for hosting prestigious PGA events including The Aetna Challenge, Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate Challenge and The IntelliNet Challenge.

The 36-year-old golf course underwent a transformative rejuvenation, addressing aging infrastructure and incorporating cutting-edge technology. Key improvements include the expansion of greens, strategic redesign of bunkers and the integration of a technologically advanced irrigation and drainage system. The overhaul sought to enhance playability and aesthetics while embracing modern golfing advancements. Plant City-based QGS Development, in tandem with Kipp Schulties Golf Design, was the general contractor for the project.

“The South Course has evolved into a better-playing golf haven, offering an unparalleled golfing adventure for our members,” said Vineyards Country Club Chairman and Co-Owner Michael Procacci Jr. “This is the latest of our ongoing efforts to honor our place in the Greater Naples community and the continued legacy of leadership that our members have always insisted upon.”

Guided by the Procacci family’s commitment and Schulties’ vision, the redesign draws inspiration from meticulously designed landscaping and wood bulkheads. This collaborative effort resulted in a golfing oasis that blends tradition with innovation.

Standout features of the newly renovated South Course include a remarkable extension from 6,800 to 7,200 yards, providing golfers with a dynamic and visually stimulating experience. The course boasts larger greens, strategically positioned bunkers and a risk/reward strategy that adds an element of excitement to every round.

“The new South Course is very playable, with wide open fairways and firmer, faster playing conditions throughout,” said Schulties. “The greens are faster and far bigger, with more character and contour. The ball will roll much further, offering a far better-quality course and keeping playability challenging, yet not difficult. The driving range tee has been expanded, and the design of the driving range has changed, lowering the floor of the range, making it appear bigger and contoured to see every shot.”

The renovations promise an elevated experience for golfers, allowing them to hit longer and faster drives. The enhanced drainage ensures a faster pace of play, while the visually captivating design encourages a strategic approach to the game.

In a nod to environmental sustainability, the renovation included the removal of 10-12 acres of turf, replaced with cord grass and native grasses. This thoughtful landscaping initiative is expected to reduce water and chemical usage by 10-15%, contributing to the ecological balance of the area. The new bunkers feature weather-resistant Pro/Angle® Bunker Sand, a premium angular sand made from silica quartz.

Throughout the renovation, the project team faced challenges such as cap rock layers, rocky terrains and navigating the complexities of the labor and supply chain. Creative solutions were implemented, enlarging lakes and adapting to the course’s unique geological features.

Advanced technologies, including individual head control irrigation and GPS-driven innovations, have been integrated throughout the course. The new driving range features FlagD technology, offering golfers precise distances through GPS-connected flags, ensuring a more controlled and informed practice session.

“Since its establishment in 1988, our Club has consistently upheld a tradition of delivering an exceptional experience for our esteemed members and maintaining a cherished role as a valued neighbor within the community,” said Procacci. “Vineyards Country Club expresses its gratitude to Kipp Schulties Golf Design and QGS Development for their expertise and collaborative efforts in bringing this vision to fruition.”

Plant City-based QGS Development has completed notable renovation projects including Admirals Cove in Jupiter, FL and Adios Golf Club in Coconut Creek, FL. The company has received the Best Large Builder, and Best Small Builder awards from Golf Course News Magazine. QGS is a member of the Golf Course Builders Association of America, Florida Turf Grass Association, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, Suncoast Underground Contractor’s Association, National Underground Contractor’s Association and the Tampa Bay Business Association.

The completion of the South Course renovation marks the first phase of Vineyards Country Club’s ambitious transformation. The North Course is set to undergo a full redesign, renovation and irrigation reconstruction in 2024, further solidifying Vineyards Country Club’s commitment to providing a world-class golfing experience.
